Q&A with Dr. Cherene Toscano
XvsX Sports Basketball Player and Game Host Boss Baller Queen Dr. Cherene
At the age of 42 years old Dr. Cherene Toscano was drafted into the Women’s Universal Basketball Association (WUBA)—a FIBA certified pro team— by the Hollywood Wonder. Toscano is a chiropractor who treats competitive, professional, and retired athletes and she is quite an athlete herself.
Tell us about yourself.
I come from a huge tight-knit Ecuadorian family with like one hundred cousins. Basketball has always been one of my passions for as long as I can remember. I started going to the gym with my dad since I was two years old. We would watch Laker games together and I would watch him hoop at McCambridge Park in Burbank. He would help me work on my shot for hours.
Because of the scarcity of runs with the guys during lockdowns, I am playing against women for the first time since college about twenty-two years ago.
What position do you play?
Since I’m a long-range shooter and on the taller side, I usually play Small Forward.
Tell me about your first time using the XvsX Sports app.
Wow! The first time I used the app was June 2020 in an outdoor full court game with Metta. It was two months into the lockdown and the first time I had exercised at all. I was huffing and puffing trying to keep up with these pros and college hoopers half my age! It was pretty bad. The stress of current events really took a toll on all of us physically and mentally. It took a lot longer to get back into shape than ever before.
How do you want to contribute to the lives of players in the XvsX Sports Community?
I get excited to see some great competitors and some new faces as well! As a host, I want my games to be fun but tough. As a player, I want to be an asset to my team. As a sports doc, I wanna be there to guide.
Tell me about your health and fitness regimen.
It’s more of a lifestyle. I don’t drink or smoke. I love my sleep. I eat lots of butter, cream, fat, and red meat. I mostly drink water, some cold brew, no soda, no gluten, no soy, no hydrogenated oils, and low carb.
I’ll never stop hooping no matter the age. I practice chiropractic methods, red light therapy, breathwork, prayer, meditation, gratitude, sun gazing, sun bathing and grounding. I lift weights but the only cardio or high-intensity interval training (HIIT) I do is basketball.
I sing at the top of my lungs and speak what’s on my mind. I am forever young, always follow my dreams, dedicated to my daughters, and love God, my family, and friends. I stand my ground, always try to do what’s right, and give when I can. I will tell you when you’re wrong and always seek the truth. Because of this I am not always loved by everyone, I am perfectly fine with that, too! I prefer respect over love.
When Dr. Cherene “Doc” Toscano isn’t helping patients or playing basketball, she is busy being a supportive mother to a daughter who is an upcoming filmmaker.
